Trips
Pods take trips!
There are a number of things that an advisor can do to build a cohesive group amongst their pod. One of the ways to do this is to take a field trip with your group. Before you can go on a trip there are a number of steps you need to take.
1. Decide on a pod Trip
As you get to know the students, you will have ideas about what you would like to do with your students. Deciding on where you want to go is the first step in planning a trip. You may also want to gather ideas from the students about what it is they would like to do/places they would like to go.
2. Quote
The next step in the planning trip process is to get a quote. Get a quote for the trip costs. If there is an entry fee find out what it is going to cost per student. Be sure to ask about group discounts. The second thing you need to do in quoting a trip is finding out how much transportation is going to be. There are three different modes of transportation that have been used here at City Neighbors:
3. Trip Approval
Once you have all the details for the trip it must be approved by administration. To get a trip approved you need to complete the trip proposal Google document and share with administration. You should include the day and time, how much the trip is going to cost/how much are students going to contribute, this should include a breakdown of the venue cost and transportation cost and the purpose for the trip. They will then respond with an approval or suggestions.
4. Reservations
When you have received the okay from administration you want to make reservations for your trip. You need to make reservations at the venue that you are looking to take the students and for transportation.
5. Permission slips and payment
The last thing that needs to be completed, before the fun, is passing out permission slips. This all happens once the venue and transportation have been solidified. You will use the Google document for field trip permission slips. Include a date when slips and money is due. It is extremely important that you collect permission slips and money from students before or on that date indicated. Students without a signed permission slip cannot attend the trip. Students should be encouraged to turn in their slips as soon as possible.
6. Enjoy!
The day of the trip. Leave a list with the office of which students are with you, where you will be, when you'll return, and how you can be reached. HAVE FUN and ENJOY YOUR TIME WITH YOUR STUDENTS!

There are three different modes of transportation that have been used here at City Neighbors:
- Bus through district- yellow bus holds about 46 people. Using this form of transportation is great for two pods taking a trip together.
- Just For You Transportation- these are 20 passenger vans, driven by the company. This mode of transportation is good for one pod. These vans are also handicap accessible if using the wheelchair lift it will only hold 16.
- Renting a 15 passenger- the advisor rents a van through a car rental. Depending on how early in advance you book the trip will determine if this mode of transportation is cheaper than Just For Your Transportation. As the advisor you would be responsible for driving. Renting the van is great for overnight trips, that way you can be on your own time.
- Staff/Pod parents-Another way trips have been made possible is by asking staff or parents in the pod to help with driving. There have been a number of occasions where parents have offered to transport students to and from trips. This is by far the most cost efficient. There are several staff members that have 7 passenger vehicles for this purpose.
