Team Building
There are a number of activities that can be utilized to forge strong bonds and build adhesion within a pod. For example some of those activities include icebreakers, taking field trips, which are highly encouraged, and have friendly competition with other advisories/pods. Team building really challenges students to step out of their comfort zones. Different team building activities will allow for students to step up at different times. You will learn a lot about the students through team building and students will learn a lot about themselves as well.
- Games are a way to help with team building. It is a chance to get to see students in another light. It takes some of the pressure off of the students and allows for them to just be. There are a number of games that can be played in advisory to involve the whole advisory, from pictionary, taboo, hangman, down to a good old game of duck duck goose. It is important to be consistent with these habits, doing so will make it easier to get students together to do other things later on.
- Community Service Projects are another way to engage students and help bring them together. It allows for the advisor to introduce students to new things, it gives students the opportunity to explore things that they probably wouldn’t do outside of school. Creating such opportunities for students will also help students work towards completing their 75 hours of service learning hours required for graduation.
