Down Time
We all need a moment of rest and relaxation in our day. It's important to give students 5-10 minutes of downtime at the start of and/or in the middle of pod. At times a student's day can be extremely demanding. Students may need a minute to unwind and relax from the morning. If students are given the opportunity to heat up their lunch and eat snacks in pod, it will decrease the amount of distractions when it is time for you to get started. Lastly, it increases the amount of time students spend on task.
Down time also gives the advisor a minute to relax from the morning's classes before jumping in. During this time you may want to put the schedule for the day on the board, gather materials for any activities, or a student may want to check in and chat.
A few routines can be helpful during down time, too.
